Takashi Murakami, the chairperson of the Technical Committee, has been awarded the IEC 1906 Award
The chairperson of the Technical Committee, Takashi Murakami of Panasonic Corporation, has been awarded the IEC 1906 Award*¹ by the International Electrotechnical Commission in recognition of Dr.Murakami’s contributions to the international standardization of ECHONET Lite.
This award recognizes Dr.Murakami’s significant contributions to the project proposal titled “Service diagnostic interface for consumer electronics products and networks: Implementation for ECHONET,” as well as Dr.Murakami’s successful management of the work as project leader of the IEC 62394 series since ED2 in IEC TC 100*².
Supported by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the ECHONET Consortium initiated activities in 2002 to propose the international standardization of the APPENDIX Detailed Requirements for ECHONET Device objects (hereinafter referred to as the APPENDIX) within the IEC. This resulted in the publication of IEC 62394 in 2006. Subsequently, activities were conducted to propose an updated version of IEC 62394 for international standardization to reflect revisions to the APPENDIX. Starting with IEC 62394 Edition 2.0, which became an international standard in 2013, updates have been made to the standard every few years in line with revisions to the APPENDIX.
The development and standardization of this specification were made possible through the dedicated efforts of Murakami and the cooperation of all ECHONET Consortium members. ECHONET Consortium will continue working with our members to promote the adoption and advancement of ECHONET Lite.
*¹ The 1906 Award is granted in recognition of exceptional recent individual achievements – a project or other specific contribution – which helped advance IEC activities in a significant way.
*² IEC TC100 (Audio, video and multimedia systems and equipment) is the technical committee responsible for standardizing multimedia-related technologies.
