“Application Communication Interface Specifications between Storage Batteries and HEMS Controllers” has been published as an international standard
ECHONET Consortium, the standards organization that publishes and maintains the smart home standard ECHONET Lite and Application Communication Interface (AIF), in collaboration with Kanagawa Institute of Technology, has been working on a proposal for international standardization of the “AIF Specifications between Storage Batteries and HEMS Controllers” in ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 25 since 2020, as a project commissioned by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan (*1). ECHONET Consortium is pleased to announce that it was published as an international standard (*2) on April 20, 2023.
ECHONET Consortium has been developing AIF specifications on top of the ECHONET Lite Specification in order to improve interconnectivity among home network devices. Of these, an international standard has already been published in June 2020 under a project commissioned by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan for home air conditioners, which are expected to be highly effective in regulating electricity supply and demand in terms of market penetration and power consumption. Thereafter, the international standardization of storage batteries, which are important for the utilization of renewable energy and are expected to spread overseas in the future, has been underway since 2020, resulting in the publication of the international standard this time. Following the storage batteries, ECHONET Consortium is currently working on the proposal of AIF specifications between electric vehicle chargers, electric vehicle charger/dischargers, and HEMS controllers.
Mr. Takebe of TÜV Rheinland Japan Ltd. has promoted the project as the project editor for this international standard proposal activity.
